NON HALAL POST
A long time ago, when people mention the words "Bak Kut Teh", the next word they mutter is "Klang". These two phrases has always been referred together, abit like Yin and Yang.
Apparently after many years, one can have Yin and the other have Yang, with other variations like Yan and Ying.
Bak kut teh will always in my eyes be one of the pioneer non halal dishes that has flourished in a country where half of the population dont eat pig or pork. Not only that, no longer do you need to drive down all the way to the smelly ports of Klang, because you see stalls that sell the pork broth and simmer parts of the pig everywhere, from the stall outside your house to KL, PJ and any other place you can imagine except for halal areas, i suppose.
Now you got KL version of Bak Kut Teh that has a lighter colour, more easy going, with the same kick akin to Coke. Then again, how come you compare Diet Coke with Coke right?
Thus the journey to Klang.
Now eating Klang Bak Kut Teh is different from having it in KL.

Now it was in Klang, that i learn to eat my Bak Kut Teh like a true master. Gone are the days when you ask for dry Pai Kuat ("Ribs"), then came a time when you call for Yun Kuat ("Soft Ribs"), then Zhu Zhang ("Some akin to the 3 layer meat, like the cut they use for roast pork"). Now i only eat Peh Yuk or in Hokkien, Sui Kut ("The mothers of all drumsticks").One can ask for fish balls (alright i suppose), intestines (no smell, absolutely gorgeous), all kinds of mushrooms to balance the diet and more heavenly soup.
Writing this down makes me saliva, damn you Bak Kut Teh.
Just another picture to torture me on a Monday morning.Address and contact details:
Teluk Pulai Bak Kut Teh
32, Jalan Batai Laut 5,
Kawasan 16, Taman Intan,
41300 Klang
Tel: 03-33445196
Please go early mornings to avoid being disappointed.
Verdict: 4 stars out of 5 stars. To get soup that is thicker and tastier then this, you got to eat Bak Kut Teh real early, stalls that sell out by 10am. As an alternative, this is the best bet because by the time you drive up to Klang it aint going to be 9am. Consistent good meat and soup, oil rice with shallots, what more can you ask for? Claypot for 3 with misc will cost you RM38.
I do eat cheap food!

haha. I never know they serve tea with BBT.
yeah, this is definitely Coke while KL's 7-Up..hehe...i thought the soup was really dense and love, love, love the intestines...smooth and tender.
but i heard locals dont eat here one leh..dunno whether it's true or not...
Lots of tau pok and mushroom please..!! no fishball ..!
oh I maust try this BKT! this is a great information!
daphne: wat??? you didnt know?? its a must..wash off all the fats..
nic: well the locals wake up early and eat in those stalls tat sell out by 9 plus am..i had the opportunity to try..but nvr take pics..
mamabok: haha fishballs seem like an afterthought..
bbo: no worries..
Bro, this may be the most inexpensive dish you've reviewed yet! Lol.
And on the plus side, finally a good BKT place that doesn't involve waking up at unearthly hours... :P
Hahaha...what's with the "I do eat cheap food" disclaimer for?
Fishball in bkt...hmm....i usually like mine as simple as possible, meaning no mushrooms and veggies cos somehow it tastes different with those in it. Ahh...bkt..i heart it too!
Haha! Yeah, sometimes when I'm writing a post, I feel so hungry! Yeah, I like bak kut teh in Klang, it tasted better than most restaurants in kl.
You are really torturing me on a Monday dinner time!
I like the look of those dishes, however, I probably would not venture that far for it. To someone whose taste buds have been numbed by bland westernised foods, any Klang Valley bkt will be good enough for me!
kennymah: yea..inexpensive indeed eh..
pp: haha i have been getting shit that i eat expensive food mah..not exactly disclaimer la..
w&e: totally agreed.
tigerfish: hahaha m i?
hazza: well then you need a dose of klang BKT to perk up your bland taste buds..!
since already in Klang why din go to Teluk Pulai for the Teluk Pulai BKT ? @_@
ling239: still got sommore meh? this isnt it???
joe,
This worth every single cents. Such a big servings and of course, I bet it must be real yummy. You can't get this if you're in Miri... sad...
Tried this b4, like the flavorful soup :)
I'm from Klang but I didn't know they serve bah kut teh with fish ball? It must be one of the inventions after I left the town. Each time I go home my family would bring me to eat different kind of bah kut teh, everyone is fighting to be different nowadays.
kok: haha its a sign..u need to come dwn to kl...
mimi: yeah its the soup..if only they give me some bowls to eat my rice..
bee ean: my first time..apparently its an "option"..
aahh.. there's always something about having BKT in Klang that's like no other experience. i still love it! hehe
oh Yew Char Kueh! loved them. and the meat as well.haha. Klang BKT is the best so far, though slightly pricey compared to others. someday i will blog BKT in Ipoh as comparison. :)
If you really are a BKT fanatic/addict then here are some more nearby choices :
1 Ipoh Road near the Grand Pacific Hotel
2 Jln Raja Laut near Tiong Nam early in the mornings ( like 6 am )
3 Imbi near the 7 - 11 ( can come 7 am )
4 Ah sang PJ ss3 ( near Indian temple )
5 Old Town PJ ( got halal Indon babes do for you one )
otherwise go to Jln Meru Klang also got many ( btw one BSG is King of Klang BKT , since 12 years ago )
sc: one of a kind..can imagine the phrase "need a holiday from kl food..drive down to klang for BKT!"
j2kfm: hmm well i guess the throngs of ppl coming..means they can happily increase price without worry
team bsg: wah thats enuf for a BKT crawl!
expensive/cheap is relative la....
is this the corner shop ah? there are a whole lot of BKT shops there. did you try the famous charsiu from further down?
i like zhu zhang. i think it's not as fat as the "3-layer meat"...
fbb: char siu??? where?????!
jun: they r slightly different..but you also get some of that 3 layer meat one when i order..
dang! you started the drool again.
Dude, alot of ppl make the mistake by goin' to this bakuteh stall when they come down to klang.even klang ppl mistaken it. the true n best bakuteh is not serve in claypot, it is served in small bowl with soup that is 3 times thicker than the claypot's. one of the best one are at the same row as this shop u blogged, it is situated on another end, and approx 3-4 shoplot from the left. but be there early, coz it sells out before 10am. and btw, the best part to order in bakuteh is not the rib nor 'suei kut', it is the 'ngo huei'. and original bakuteh does not add fishball/vege/intestine/taufu or watever crap tat u can find.it is mainly juz the soup n the meat, not forgetting the tea. tat is why it is called bakuteh in the first place! not some weird fishball/vege/intestine/taufuKutTeh..
henry: hahah yes i did..
bakuteh historian: i think i just found my saviour...normally i order small bowls if its a few of us and this r stalls where they open very early..
here is like a place i go to if i need a fix and its late.. thus all the weird crap put in..
Yummy Bah Kut Teh!
I wonder if this is one of my cousin's store? Next time, snap a few photos of the store owner?
lee ping: hahah i will try i suppose..!
Please feel free to drop by www.j2kfm.blogspot.com for more introduction of Ipoh food ya!
